I will walk in you and be your God Leviticus 6:12
Holiness
1John 3:9
Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.(click for context)
What is the seed of God?
The gospel is God's seed. By receiving the gospel words into his heart, a sinner is both plunged into the 'blood bath' of Christ and infused with eternal life by the breath of the Holy Spirit through Christ.
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1Peter 1:23
How is it that God's seed in a believer excludes sin?
If a believer sins after conversion, it is not because of the life of Christ in him. In fact, it is the blood of Christ, received through the gospel seed, that continually cleanses believers as they confess their sins. This line of reasoning by John was targeted at the false teaching of his time which promoted ongoing sin by a believer as something that was acceptable
or condoned by God.
In other words, both fleshly activity and the budding and flowering God's word by the power of the resident Holy Spirit are taking place in a believer. However, their respective sources are mutually exclusive:
Does a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and
strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. James 3:11-17
