I will walk in you and be your God Leviticus 6:12
If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him. (click for context)
What is righteousness?
God's word is righteous and the measuring stick of the righteousness of others:
All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse is in them. Prov. 8:8
My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness Psalm 119:172
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Why do we need to be righteous?
Only those who measure up to His word are acceptable to God:
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Romans 3:10-12
Who is righteous?
Only Jesus Christ measured up perfectly to God's word. But now, God offers sinners to be clothed in that righteousness by faith.
and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; Phil. 3:9
But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets. Rom. 3:21
How is righteousness conferred upon a sinner?
God's word is righteous; being born of that word places God's righteousness in us as we are baptized into the death and resurrection of Christ.
I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Isaiah 61:10
These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Rev. 7:14
